AppleII-ish things

I have an AppleII-computer "Unitron 2200". If you also have (or have had) it, or know something about this computer I would be verry happy if you tell me.

Books, newspapers to preserve to posterity

Description of my computer

Name: Unitron 2200 (marked on both chassi, keyboard and in the manual). Have a Z80-processor (2MHz) on the motherboard (for CP/M and Turbo Pascal). Parallellprinter card in slot #1 and an 80-column card in slot #3.

Separate keyboard with numeric keypad. It have lowercase wich is turned on/off with a CapsLock-key in the lower left corner (with a little red lamp in it wich is allways on except when the key is hold down, but then normaly the finger is there so it's impossible to see anyway...) The shift may be used to produce uppercase when in lowercasemode. It has no up/down-arrows, no Tab-key and no apple-keys.

It have two seaparate 5.25"-halfhight diskdrives connected with separate cables to the motherboard.

I have an monochrome (yellow/black) monitor. In highres-graphics the highbit in every byte is used to shift the other pixels in that byte an half pixel to the right. In 80-column mode the chars is not made by 7x8 pixels but of 8x9 pixels or something and the ^-character looks like an uparrow instead.

When booting the computer it says "DISK ON" The manual says it have 64KB RAM but a pice of the RAM is in the same adress-space as an other. It have 24KB ROM in two banks. It boots in applesoft. I have DOS 3.3

The manual

In the manual it says it have four slots #1, #3, #5 and #7 but my motherboard has five slots #1, #3, #4, #5 and #7 (despite that the #4's adresses is in use by the Z80- toggle on the motherboard I think).

The keyboard is not exactly the one in the manual either, my keyboard have the swedish characters ÅÄÖ on it and use the four function-keys below the numeric keypad differently. Two of them is used when defining macros for numeric keypad used like those predefined ones (eg. [LampKey]-L to write LOAD etc) and the other two is ctrl-S and Return.

Problems

The bright areas of the screen (like in inverse text) flicker quite much. If anyone knows how to make it stop flicker that much, please tell me (pen2@mds.mdh.se).

I had to soldering a little in the keyboard to make the K-key and the numeric keypad-Return working again, because they just stopped work. The Return-key is not quite the same :-(

Another problem is with the keyboard-cable i think. Sometimes all keys give wrong characters.

Clone of what

Somewhere on the net I've read that it is an Apple//e-clone and not an AppleII+ -clone, but I think that must be wrong. There isn't anyhing said about that in the manual. Anyway, it would have been fun if it supported "double highres" or other Apple//e-features and i never knowed about it :-)
