Penetralia

Very good debut album. It's really a death album but since they sing about Satan and is fucking great compared to all other death metal shit I thought I'd review it. It's a very evil album, not as evil as Osculum Obscenum though but it shows a very promising band. Well played good material although it's a bit uneven (some songs are great and others OK'ish) It has the evilest death vocals I've ever heard. The sound quality is pretty good for a debut and it has some cool sound effects.

Osculum Obscenum

Here we have a great black/death metal album (actually it's more death then black, but since they sing about Satan and hate Christians I thought it fitted here). The music is a lot different then the other usual death metal stuff, a lot heavier and more evil then most. It's well played, well produced and has phenomenal material plus that the vocals are perhaps the cruelest up to date. If you're totally into B.M. it's probably nothing for you, but if you also like death metal this one's a killer. One of the best albums of 1993 in my opinion. (Their newer albums "The Fourth Dimension" and "Abducted" is very good too but it's not a tenth as evil, mostly because of the new singer and the softer material).

Inferior Devoties EP.

Starts off with a new version of the title track thetas not even a tenth as good as the original, mainly because the old singer left the band. Then there is a new song which doesn't have the same quality as either previous or late stuff. The third track however is also a new song and it's very good with cool heavy riffs like in Osculum Obscenum. Then there is a new recording of "God is a Lie" from Penetralia. It's musically and sound vise better then the original but the vocals ain't as good. Finally the last track is a cover version of slayers good old "Black Magic" and it's great, I'm thinking of buying the EP. just because of that song. It really fits Hypocrisy's style. The only thing to complain about is the vocals, the new singer used to only play the guitars but have been forced to take over the vocal part as well. He's not by far as good as the old one and his biggest fault is to try to sound as the old singer did instead of doing his own thing.

Fourth Dimension

It's slower and softer then the previous albums but also much better played and produced. The material is very good, almost in the same class as Osculum Obscenum. They have begun to use some keyboards in a couple of songs to "fill out" the music in a nice sounding way. A big plus is that the new singer has becomed much better and has comed up with a bit of a style of his own that's pretty close to the old singers but enough far away to sound like a cheap copy. It's definitely worth the money but do try to get the digi-packed version with the extra track "The Abyss" on it since it's one of the better songs on the album.

Maximum Abduction MCD

WOW! Check this out! Do you remember those old different shaped LP's that use to be common in the early 80's? I remember looking at those cool sawblade shaped W.A.S.P. albums and that Samantha Fox album with her in whole figure shaped 7#. Now it's the CD's turn and first out is Hypocrisy with sort of a promo MCD for their upcoming Abducted CD and it's shaped like a raw chicken! Original or what? The songs are good with two from the Abducted album + one new and a cool cover of an old Kiss song.

Abducted

This album shows much development in the Hypocrisy camp, and it's even more in the Fourth Dimension direction, both for better and worse. Better is the great material and good vocals which puts this album at the second place over Hypocrisy best after Osculum Obscenum. worse are the softer parts with normal vocals and softer riffs. At this level it's no big deal, it only makes it easier to listen to but it's not a good development, just look at all the bands who thought that they where getting "heavier" I don't think I have to mention anyone (Entombed). This is in all an absolute must album if you're into Death Metal.

The Final Chapter

(SIGH...)An epoc has come to an end. Swedens perhaps best ever Death metal act has gone to the grave, but they do it with style and greatness as their final release holds the same high quality as all their perevious 7 releases (4 albums, 3 MCD's) This has about the same style as the last 2 albums with a heavy sound and vocals much like the last 2 Carcass albums. There are some normal vocals too and they fit their respective songs perfectly. There's no song like "Roswell 47" or "The Abyss" that really stands out, but instead all the songs have an even high quality. It's impressive how great musicians these guy's have become over the years, and it's a damn shame that they are quiting now. For the first time ever has the lyrics been added to the booklet, but only on one single track: the title song, which is telling us why this great band has finally stoped breathing (Well, I think it does, it's kinda deep). The whole thing almost bring tears to my eyes. Anyway, I wish the ex-members the best of luck in the world and hope that we one day might see something great coming out of this. I think that their old fans will like this 54.45min as much as their previous 2 albums. "The Last Chapter" is marking an end of a great influencial band in the Swedish scene.
