Terrain for WFB and 40k

To me the terrain and the building of it have always been an important part of the hobby. To some Warhammer and Warhammer 40.000 gamers good-looking terrain might not be as important as a good-looking army, but without good terrain the chance of a fun and challenging battle is slim. No matter how well painted an army is it will not look good on a table with unrealistic terrain. The basic terrain that we use is made using some simple techniques. With basic terrain I mean hills, ruins and houses.
Problems?
The biggest problem when it comes to terrain building is probably to find a good place to build it, as it sometimes gets a little messy. Another problem is to find time for terrain building as the painting of the miniatures usually seems more important. But seeing your army in combat on a table with nice looking terrain makes it worth all the trouble.
Cheap
Compared to the painting and collecting of an army building terrain is a simple task.
 I think that learning how to build and paint neat looking basic terrain is much simpler then learning how to paint a great looking army. And it is much quicker to build the terrain one will need than to paint an army. Most of the stuff that one needs for terrain building is also easy to get and cheap to buy.
